What are essential oils?

Essential oils are concentrated, fat soluble, aromatic plant extracts made from all or any part or the whole plant.

They are carefully obtained through steam distillation, cold pressing, or resin tapping. They are extremely small, volatile particles that evaporate easily. Not all plants produce essential oils, and in the plants that do, the essential oil may be found in the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, or fruits. The role of essential oils is to transport nutrients into the cells of the plant and without them, the plant would not exist – hence the term essential.
